Life-Saving Medical Apps

This App Alerts Nearby Strangers Who Could Save You From a Heart Attack

Medical apps are beginning to grow more and more common but none are as revolutionary as SMSlivräddare. This life-saving application alerts nearby strangers if you, or anyone you know, is undergoing a heart attack.

While paramedics waste no time rushing to scene after an emergency call, every second counts when someone is having a heart attack. Knowing that each minute without treatment decreases the victim's chances of survival by 10%, Swedish digital agency Daytona worked with medical researchers to develop SMSlivräddare. Based in Sweden, SMSlivräddare uses GPS to ping anyone from a network of thousands of CPR-trained individuals surrounding the area.

The app gives directions to reach the victim, basic instructions for CPR as well as a metronome to help the volunteer keep perfect timing. If there's a defibrillator nearby, some of the volunteers get instructions to bring it to the scene.
