L’Epée 1839 Releases the Opulent Mechanical Watch Box

Swiss clockmaker L’Epée 1839 introduced the Mechanical Watch Box, a self-powered display case designed to present a wristwatch by raising it from a black fabric pad when a button is pressed. The unit measures 215 x 150 x 140 mm, weighs 3.4 kg and uses Inox stainless steel, acrylic, glass and microfibers, with metal surfaces polished, sand-blasted, satin-finished and lacquered, featuring a clear housing that showcases the mechanism.

The box includes an internal rewind feature that resets and rewinds its mechanism when closed so the display remains ready without manual winding. Priced at US$12,000 and aimed at collectors of high-end timepieces, the Mechanical Watch Box reframes packaging as a standalone luxury object and reflects a trend for accessories that mirror the craft and exclusivity of the watches they hold.
