Dutch design studio Ninetynine has redesigned the interior of one of the smallest bars in Amsterdam, the 'Mash' bar.
The designers wanted to amplify the already-cozy atmosphere of the bar, which clocks in at a mere 32 sq. meters. They did so by lining the interior (including the built-in furniture) with boards of compressed wood strips otherwise known as oriented strand board (OSB). Everything except the floor is cased in the material, which is very affordable and popular, giving the bar a subtle warmth. Jeroen Vester of Ninetynine explained, "The space is not only small but has a very low ceiling as well. We wanted to create a bar that's cozy with just a bunch of friends but also spacious and functional when it's packed."
To finish, incandescent bulbs were strung above the bar at different heights, illuminating the extensive range of specialist beers and spirits that Mash has to offer and ultimately making the bar the focal point.
