The Malpensa Hospital is a large-scale healthcare project planned for the Lombardy region of northern Italy. The facility is designed by Zaha Hadid Architects in collaboration with engineering firm RINA and a multidisciplinary consultant team. It is intended to consolidate the existing hospitals of Busto Arsizio and Gallarate into a single campus serving the area between Milan and Varese. The project is organized as a compact structure with five above-ground levels and one basement, accommodating clinical, diagnostic, and support functions across approximately 90,000 square meters. The layout groups departments into modular zones to allow phased construction and future expansion while maintaining operational efficiency.
The campus plan incorporates separate circulation routes for patients, staff, and logistics to support healthcare workflows. Landscaped courtyards and outdoor areas are integrated throughout the site to connect interior spaces with planted zones. The building massing is arranged to optimize daylight access, internal orientation, and functional clarity across departments.
