Made in Durham is a photo series, put together by Durham, North Carolina-based documentary photographer Justin Cook, that captures the city's neglected African-American communities. The subjects of these photos are those who were adversely affected by the upscaling and gentrification of their neighborhoods.
Many of the people depicted in Made in Durham are coming to grips with personal tragedies often involving violence and the consequences of falling foul of the law. These people are seen coming together and forming communities to help those suffering similar problems.
Those most affected the most by the situation are of course youth, many of whom grow up without father figures and in a state of perpetual poverty, causing them to turn to crime.
