The Ranch Mine designed the 'Link House,' a modern residence located in the Pierson Place neighborhood of Phoenix, Arizona. The house earned its name because the architects felt it was the "missing link" for the neighborhood.
The architects wanted to integrate the infill home into the urban context of the site. The City of Phoenix Historic Preservation committee also had to approve the home, so the architects got creative with a contemporary design that did not visually infringe upon the historic neighborhood.
The home's living area is flanked by sliding glass walls, giving the residents the opportunity to extend it towards the front or backyard -- or both. This transformative quality is great for accommodating and entertaining large groups of people. The glass doors, which offer a great form of ventilation on their own, are further shaded by large overhangs during the warmer months. Inside, LED lighting works to keep the home's energy emission low.
