Lidl Planet Plate Recipes Were Created by Chef Miguel Barclay

Cost of living concerns are reaching new levels, which is bleeding into marketing with greater emphasis as seen with the new Lidl Planet Plate recipes.

The UK grocer has partnered with Chef Miguel Barclay to create the recipes with affordable ingredients that consumers can easily find at Lidl locations. The recipes each feature more vegetables, beans, whole grains, plant-based proteins and more to keep each serving in line with the Planetary Health Diet principles. The meals are also inherently cost-conscious at £1 each to help challenge the preconceived notion amongst many consumers in the UK that healthy eating has to be expensive.

Chief Commercial Officer Richard Bourns spoke on the Lidl Planet Plate recipes saying, "Our research shows people want to make healthier and more sustainable choices for the planet, but often affordability stands in the way. At Lidl GB, we’re breaking down those barriers by proving that market-leading value can go hand in hand with making foods encouraged by the Planetary Health Diet more affordable and accessible."

Trend Themes

  1. Affordable Wellness Eating — Budget-friendly recipe campaigns are reframing healthy meals as accessible everyday choices, creating space for grocers to compete on nutrition, price and simplicity at once.
  2. Sustainable Value Meals — Low-cost dishes aligned with planetary diet principles point to new retail formats where sustainability is built into price-led food marketing rather than positioned as a premium feature.
  3. Chef-led Grocery Content — Celebrity and expert-backed meal ideas are turning supermarket ingredients into guided lifestyle solutions, giving retailers new influence across meal planning, health education and basket building.

Industry Implications

  1. Grocery Retail — Supermarkets are using affordability-focused health campaigns to strengthen loyalty among cost-conscious shoppers while differentiating private-label and fresh food assortments.
  2. Plant-based Foods — Beans, vegetables, whole grains and meat alternatives are gaining momentum as economical staples, opening opportunities for brands that connect plant-forward eating with savings.
  3. Food Marketing — Purpose-led recipe storytelling is becoming a practical response to inflation concerns, enabling brands to link value, wellness and sustainability in consumer-facing campaigns.
