An old library in Portland has been converted to a library-themed home. Designer Jessica Helgerson opted to infuse the building's old charm in the now reclaimed space.
The library-themed inspiration is evident throughout, with bookshelves spread out all over the house, including the kitchen, dinning and living rooms. There is also a traditional library ladder to further reinforce the home's origins.
The structure's original high ceilings were also maintained, further emphasizing the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. Although the traditional foundation was kept, Helgerson incorporated many modern elements including large art pieces, a hanging fireplace, and contemporary light fixtures.
Because of the large living space, many of the home's other rooms are smaller. The basement was also extended to create space for a sauna, laundry room and exercise room.
