Glowing Geometric Subway Stations

This Leipzig Station is a 140-Meter Illuminated Glass Tunnel

Switzerland-based architect Max Dudler has designed a new subway station called the Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz S-Bahn station located in Leipzig, Germany. It is one of four stops on the new Leipzig City Tunnel railway line. The 140 meter-long underground tunnel is made up of thousands of intricately illuminated glass cubes. "The seemingly endless repetition of the same element in the course of the slightly curved, light-filled hall increases the sensation of the dimensions of this already large structure," says Dudler.

The station's entire platform is made of terrazzo and has a predominantly concrete structure that frame the station, creating enormous glowing squares from the ground to the ceiling. "All station furnishings of the station are arranged as geometric concrete sculptures," says the studio on its design aesthetics.
