The natural and delicate leaf bowls created by Japanese artist Kay Sekimachi, are made from real leaves. To be specific, she uses the skeletons of a variety of leaves such as maple and oak.
She is a master of complex weave structures, which is the technique she uses to create these divine leaf bowls. Following the process of combining kozo paper, watercolor and krylon to coat the leaves, she is able to give them a solid form.
As a graduate from the California College of Arts and Crafts she has written many books reflecting her studies in the craft world. Her work showcases a passion for using natural materials such as leaves, shells, grass and other organic elements. Almost all of her artwork is inspired by nature.
Sekimachi's beautiful leaf bowls will be on display at the Bellevue Arts Museum from in the summer of 2015.
