Undulating Sidewalk Sculptures

Landhausplatz by LAAC Turned Sad Space into a Lively Square

A city is only as happy as its architecture, and Landhausplatz by LAAC Architekten and Stiefel Kramer Architecture brings that zest for into a previously neglected neighborhood corner.

The Eduard-Wallnöfer-Platz public square comprised four defining elements before its major overhaul, and in collaboration with Christopher Grüner, the designers were able to frame each while giving the bare space between them a compelling sculptural quality.

An undulating concrete floor carves out benches, half-pipes and circular interruptions for planted trees. To solve the problem of excessive run-off, the 9,000 square meter cement slabs have been sliced to allow for the onsite earth absorption of rain.

The monumental landscape architecture project livens up Austria's Innsbruck, and Landhausplatz by LAAC Architekten offers citizens a new social situation for various types of interaction within the plaza.
