Doily Mask Portraits

These Images Feature Subjects Shielding Their Faces with Lace Masks

Italian designer Francesca Lombardi created an interesting set of portraits that feature individuals who are wearing lace masks. The collection of portraits was photographed by Giacomo Favilla.

The portrait collection is titled 'Doily' due to the resemblance that each of its masks has to the lace-like ornamental mats. Each subject in the photographs has their face completely hidden beneath an interesting and intricate lace mask. Some images show couples whiles others present stand-alone figures.

The clothing worn as well as the background reflects the air of an old, country-themed setting. There is a cohesive parallel between the vintage looking doily masks and the setting, which creates an eerie collection of images. The series’ lack of facial expression forces its audience to read deeper into the body language the surrounding props.
