La Barca is a small timber chapel installed along a mountain trail in the hills of Piobbico, Italy, designed to resemble an overturned boat blocking the path. The structure is constructed using curved wooden ribs and planks arranged like a boat hull, creating a narrow, tunnel-like interior that visitors pass through as part of the trail. Its form draws directly from traditional boat-building techniques, translating nautical construction into architectural language.
Designed by Marina Poli, Clément Molinier, and Philippe Paumelle, the chapel functions as both a place of pause and a sculptural intervention in the landscape. La Barca received recognition at the 2025 Festival di Microarchitettura for its clarity of concept and material execution. The installation uses standard timber boards and minimal foundations, allowing it to sit lightly on the terrain while remaining durable enough for public interaction.
