The Kensuke Koike ‘Jerry’ Installation Takes on a MouseR

The Kensuke Koike ‘Jerry’ Installation is a tribute to the iconic Jerry Mouse from the Tom and Jerry Duo. The Japanese artist Kensuke Koike has been using photographs and collages to push boundaries and in this installation, he makes a mixed media collage. Koike creates a view from the home of Jerry.

However, unlike the comedic children’s television show, the house has been abandoned by the family. The familial warmth is now replaced by a cold, stark winter. Jerry must face the sad isolation alone, though, as Koike puts it, "he lived off the family up to now, though never being part of it." It seems as though his nemesis and only friend Tom is no longer there to provide him with hijinks, taking away his daily rituals. Koike captures the sadness that shadows nostalgia in the Jerry installation.
