Modern Sloping Temples

A Buddhist Retreat by Katsuhiro Miyamoto and Associates

Located in Nagano, Japan, this sloped-roof space by Katsuhiro Miyamoto & Associates is built to withstand the area's heavy snowfalls. The thick concrete roof is also built to last 100 to 200 years.

The interior of the mixed wood and concrete home is minimalistic but spacious. The home is actually a priest's quarters at the Buddhist temple of Chushin-ji and will be used for events like lectures, concerts and exhibitions.

Implications - Leave it to a priest to have a totally monumental abode like this one. I only wish that all housing could be built to last 100 to 200 years -- talk about an investment!
