Infrared California Landscape Photography

Kate Ballis' Project Features the State in a Surreal Way

Kate Ballis, a photographer who's based out of Melbourne, Australia, traveled to the United States to capture the state of California in a dreamlike manner.

The images that result from the project are highly surreal, with Ballis' infrared technique transforming the typically green and brown landscapes to be bright hues of purple, pink and red. The photographer explained the inspiration behind the project by saying, "I am fascinated with unseen energy and am excited to create work that catches a glimpse of a world that exists just outside human perception, like a memory you can’t quite pinpoint."

Throughout the project, Ballis focuses on the state's sprawling desert views, as well as the poolside resorts that decorate much of it.
