Mixed Material Furnishings

Designer Josie Morris Creates Minimalist Home Decor

The designs of Josie Morris, a Northumbria graduate who recently exhibited at New Designers in London, England, are beautifully minimalist. Yet although they focus on rather simple silhouettes, the designs are anything but simple. The mix of metal and wood materials prevents that quite successfully. Whether it is the gleaming copper of a lampshade or the textured look of wood for the vases, Josie Morris knows how to elevate an object through the use of materials.

Three of Josie Morris' designs in particular play with the juxtaposition of wood and metal. The Handle Pendants are predominantly made out of metal, with wood acting as the 'handle' on top. The Range Tables are mainly fashioned out of wood with a metal detail at its joint while the Vase is an even mix of both.
