Cinematic Cubism Portraits

Isaac Budmen and Adam Lister Turn Film Scenes into 8-Bit Works of Art

These 8-bit pixel works of art by artists Adam Lister and Isaac Budmen offer viewers the chance to experience a collection of various art movements juxtaposed with pop culture themes. In this collaborative project, both Budmen and Lister recreate famous film characters and paintings using pixelated blocks.

Lister begins the collaborate work by using watercolor to create cubist pixel portraits of famous cinematic characters like Ron Burgundy and Superman. Lister uses watercolor and geometric shapes like squares and rectangles to imperfectly replicate the look of various personas. Budmen then uses scanned versions of Lister's watercolor paintings to turn them into Photoshop images. Budmen transfers the watercolor blocks into 3D-printed works of art made from a mix of gypsum powder color and binder material. The works are breathtaking and very avant-garde.
