Instagram's 'InstaMeet' Encourages Communities to Come Together Offline

In celebration of Instagram being around for five years this October, a global InstaMeet campaign was set up. Using the #TodayIMet tag, people were encouraged to share portraits of all the people they have met through the platform.

To continue these kinds of connections in the future, Instagram set up an online portal that highlights upcoming InstaMeet events around the globe, such as one in Lagos, Nigeria that will be happening in December. When joining or creating an InstaMeet, Instagram suggests picking a hashtag so that others can be invited, build excitement for the event and share photos from the event once it happens.

#TodayIMet campaign also ties in with a huge milestone that was recently reached by the social sharing platform—it now has more than 400 million users active monthly.
