The Sky Kitchen Transforms the Way Flyers Dine While Flying

A group of students of the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati created the Sky Kitchen concept to enter the OzCHI24 annual international student design competition, which ended on October 8th. 3D food printing isn’t new, but it’s one of the first times this technology was thought to be applied to the air travel market.

Through a LCD system interface, users could order their meal easily, choosing shapes of the food and their ingredients. It offers a much better alternative for airplane meals. Everyone knows airplane meals aren't the best meals in the world. Thanks to the development of 3D food printing, the choice will be bigger, the food fresher and more adapted to specific diets as pregnant women or diabetics, providing them the differentiation they need.

This project could really transform the travel business including a strong added value. Sky Kitchen can serve others transport modes too. Customization, freshness guarantee and diets adaptation are certainly 3 success keys that could be use into long-distance trains for example.
