Industrial-Style Seating Arrangements

'Desert Cast' Advocate for a New Kuwaiti Design Identity

'Desert Cast' is a project that produces 46 industrial-style seating designs. Debuted at Dubai Design Week, it seeks to liberate and redefine the aesthetic identity of Kuwait. The development of the furniture pieces is definitely experimental. The collection is the result of the hard work of three creators — architect Jassim Al Nashmi, product designer Kawther Al Saffar and architect Ricardas Blazukas, who used "a hybrid of traditional foam cutting and sand casting process."

It is the use of such techniques that render the industrial-style seating arrangements worthy of redefining the design identity of the city. While the combination of local techniques for manufacturing truly adds some interesting and unexpected components to the end product, the creatives also draw inspiration from Greco-Roman architecture which has largely influenced the design industry in Kuwait.
