Iconic Metal Wire Chairs

Jan Plechac's Icon 03 is Inspired by Gerrit Rietveld's Red and Blue Seat

The Icon 03 chair pays tribute to Gerrit Rietveld's Red and Blue seat, which was designed way back in 1918. An interesting interpretation of the iconic industrial design creation, the use of metal wire beautifully maintains the original's striking sculptural form. By creating a grid-like aesthetic, the Icon 03 chair almost appears to take on a digital form of the Red and Blue seat.

Designed by young Czech designer Jan Plecháč, the Icon 03 chair is part of his thesis project at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. Originally produced in wood, which was more readily available in that era, the Icon 03 chair boasts a new dimension of functionality. The powder-coated wire makes it suitable for the outdoors.
