The 25th version of Sweden's famous Icehotel, part hotel and part art project, has opened its doors. Located in the village of Jukkasjarvi -- 322 km north of the Arctic Circle -- the Icehotel covers an area of 5,500 square meters.
Around 35,000 people stay at the hotel each year. The hotel offers a variety of room options including the regular deluxe and super deluxe varieties as well as the more novel Nordic-sounding Northern Light suites, snow rooms, ice rooms and so-called art suites.
The Icehotel was constructed using 2,500 blocks of ice, each weighing about 1.8 tons. Construction took place over an eight week period from October to December. The hotel will be open until April, at which point it will begin to melt away.
