The Hyundai Elevate Concept Car Prepares for Earthy Terrain and Emergencies

The Hyundai Elevate concept recently made its debut at CES 2019 and is designed to combat natural disasters. It is a vehicle that uses both wheels and robotic legs to navigate through any terrain, enabling the option to either drive or walk. Hyundai CRADLE's Vice President John Suh explains that it is designed to drive to emergency scenes and climb over any debris.

This concept can be used in more common situations as well, Suh states that "people living with disabilities worldwide that don’t have access to an ADA ramp could hail an autonomous Hyundai Elevate that could walk up to their front door, level itself, and allow their wheelchair to roll right in," The Hyundai Elevate is inspired by a modular EV technology that is able to transform itself to suit varying situations. The robotic legs function on five different degrees and are designed to mimic mammals and reptiles' walking patterns.
