Hologram-Projecting Smartphones

RED's 'Hydrogen One' is an Impressive Phone with a Unique Display

Shipping out in summer of 2018 RED's 'Hydrogen One' smartphone is an absolute powerhouse from the makers of ultra-high end cameras. The Hydrogen One is a very impressive piece of tech, but perhaps its most interesting feature comes from the innovation behind the screen. Instead of impressing users with more pixels or a fast screen, the Hydrogen One comes equipped with a so-called holographic display. This display can be turned on or off, switching into 4V mode, and essentially projects an image up from the screen. The holographic screen is being touted as better than 3D and does not require any special glasses to view.

Internally speaking, the phone comes equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and a 4,500 mAh battery. In terms of external features, the phone comes with a headphone jack, USB Type-C, and a dual SIM slot, which can be used for two phone numbers or one SIM and one microSD card. The phone will also be able to record video and pictures in regular 2D, 3D and 4V holographic. RED's first smartphone is truly something unique in both simply because of its internal specifications. It is yet to be seen whether the 4V display will be a gimmick or something useful, but it is hard to ignore the technological innovation it represents.
