The House in Chiba Features a Sloping Dining Extension

Japanese studio Suppose Design Office sought to give the 35-year-old 'House in Chiba' a contemporary face lift. The architects created an open-air dining area and loft, accessible by terraces on either side.

The architects also decided to extend the house towards the south, offering connection with the surrounding gardens. Essentially, the two glazed walls transform the space to achieve an indoor-outdoor symbiosis, as well as flood the interior with natural light. The architects suggest that the house will have an "environmental feeling that may slightly change by season, weather and time."

The home features a new roof that slopes over the extension to connect with the home's upper level. The wooden ceiling beams were left exposed, and a timber partition wall clearly divides the new and the old.
