Hotel Manta is a unique single suite hotel that is built around a nude statue in the waterfront market square of the Finnish capital Helsinki. The bronze statue was sculpted by Finnish sculptor Ville Vallgren in 1906 -- it depicts a nude woman standing on seaweed and surrounded by sea lions and four water-spouting fish.
The 40-square-meter room was built so that the bed encompasses the sculpture -- it stands between the two pillows in such a way that her feet are positioned at sleeping guests' eye level. Constructed by local building firm Stara, Hotel Manta is supported by unfinished timber that lifts the suite -- which is painted black -- three meters to the appropriate level.
Steps lead up toe the suite, which includes entrance and storage areas, the main bedroom and its adjacent bathroom.
