German studio Format Elf Architekten have designed three holiday cottages for the Hofgut estate, a luxury accommodation in the Bavarian countryside. The architects created the barn-style buildings, complete with pitched roofs, for guests looking for a longer-term stay than the facilities can entertain.
The structures, which call to mind archetypal agricultural buildings, are meant to look how a child might draw a house: extremely simple. Architect Stefan Hanniger goes onto explain,"The silhouettes of the houses are reduced to their essence and have an iconic and sharp appearance.The material of the facade is blackened timber which creates a conceptual bridge to the old weather-beaten barn."
The homes are clad in black-stained timber, allowing them to blend with their surroundings. Upon first glance, the homes look uniform in their aesthetic; however, they are differentiated by terrace and window detailing that corresponds to their estate location.
