This hipped roof house design in Japan was developed by the Naoi Architecture & Design Office as a way to connect the building to the rest of the neighborhood. Although most roof designs tend to be closed off, the use of glass on this structure gives a peek at the prominent wooden hipped roof on the interior of the home. This design decision also increases the amount of natural light that is let into the home. The roofline of the house was shaped to mimic a mountain in the nearby area, although this natural feature has since disappeared from the region in another neighborhood development project.
From the inside of the house, the design of the sloped roof is just as dramatic, especially since the layout of the house is arranged with all of the rooms radiating off of a central living room.
