Fancy Figure-Eight Yachts

This Heatherwick Studio Boat Wraps the Hull Up into a Continuous Knot

At first glance, you can certainly appreciate that the Heatherwick Studio boat has been designed so differently to a typical yacht. With many models, no matter their type, it's common for the hulls to be hidden beneath the water, but in this case, you can see that the rounded bottom of the boat has been wrapped up and over.

The beautifully fluid shape of the marine machine actually takes a continuous loop, forming a sort of figure-8 that seems to reference a nautical knot. The catamaran-style base has been extruded and sculpted to become elevated decks that are opened and enclosed. The Heatherwick Studio boat was designed for the Estuaire art exhibition along the River Loire, providing passengers with first glass views of the bank-lined installations.
