Swedish firm White Arkitekter designed the 'Hasle Harbour Bath,' a harbor-side recreation space for the town, located on the Danish island of Bornholm.
The floating structure was designed in response to an increasing demand for natural swimming pools. It sits on one of several basins that made up Hasle's man-made harbor, which also facilitates ferrying, fishing and local industry. The architects explain, "With no natural harbor, the town's man-made harbor has been built up as a series of basins protected by granite breakwaters. While necessary, the barriers block views and restrict access to the open sea."
The architects designed the bath so that it offers a vantage point looking over the harbor, in addition to the swimming and recreation spaces.
