Guerrilla Grafters, an environmental activist group in San Francisco, United States, raises a good point when it comes to the public, ornamental trees that line streets and neighborhoods. These once fruit-bearing trees can easily supply free food for passersby and residents. Instead, they were planted for a purely aesthetic purpose.
Guerrilla Grafters hopes to change this by integrating fruits into trees by grafting fruit branches directly onto them. In some states, however, this is an illegal act because the fallen fruit can end up being a health and safety hazard; they also attract insects and rodents.
