Tesco is Partnering with Manna to Test Grocery Delivery Drones

British multinational grocery chain Tesco has announced that it will be trialing a new home delivery service in partnership with Manna, a company that's devised grocery delivery drones that are able to accommodate small orders.

The company plans to run the trial for a period of six months, after which point it will assess the success of it and decide whether or not the program should be expanded. For the trial, the grocery delivery drones will service consumers who are close to the Tesco Oranmore store in Co Galway, Ireland. As the drones have a limit on the weight that they can carry, the service will be limited to those who are just looking to restock on essential small items. Once they've placed their order, the drone will be dispatched within 30 minutes to an hour.

Tesco Group Innovation Director Claire Lorains spoke to the announcement, stating "We are interested to see how drones could be part of the solution to deliver to our customers on-demand small baskets. If our trial with Manna is successful, we believe there is an opportunity to reach many customers through our stores, extending via our drone service."
