Short Space Film Spin-Offs

The Gravity Spinoff Shows the Other Side of Ryan Stone's Phone Call

Joseph Cuaron's short Gravity spin-off shows the other side of Ryan Stone's (Sandra Bullock) distress call. Filmed in Greenland and featuring Bullock's voice, this film is award-winning material.

The pivotal scene in Gravity showed Ryan Stone sitting alone in a space capsule, making one last call before giving up her last ounce of hope. At the other end of her call was a foreign voice that she couldn't fully understand. Viewers wondered what was going on at the other end of the line, especially when the sound of barking dogs and a crying baby became audible.

Cuaron -- the son of the film's director Alfonso Cuaron -- created this seven-minute Gravity spinoff titled 'Aningaaq,' which features an Inuit fisherman as he sits stationed. "It's this moment where the audience and the character get this hope that Ryan is finally going to be OK, then you realize that everything gets lost in translation," said Jonas Cuaron to The Hollywood Reporter.

This incredible short film offers closure to viewers and also enhances the sadness they felt when Stone realized that help wouldn't be on the way.
