Out of the Cage is an experimental glass-blowing project conceived by Spanish designer Gala Fernandez and brought to life with the help of highly skilled artisans from Nouvel Studio in Mexico City. The project was presented at the Marion Friedmann Gallery during the London Design Festival 2014.
The project consists of liquid glass blown into a variety of differently shaped and sized bird cages that served as molds. Once the abodes of colorful birds, the cages have now evolved into glass-blown objects. They act as supports for the curiously shaped glass masses.
Aside from being visually interesting and pleasing to look at, this glass-blowing project seeks to question the subtle difference between confinement and refuge, and between shelter and imprisonment.Photo Credits: designboom, piopiolabs
