Geology-Inspired Footwear

Barbora Veselá's Geology of Shoes Takes Cues from Rock Formations

'Geology of Shoes' by Barbora Veselá reuses scrap fabrics in an ingenious way that mimics the shapes and patterning on sedimentary rocks. Veselá was inspired by the Czech Republic's Prokopské údolí nature reserve for this unique shoe collection.

Veselá blends concepts like the formation of layers and erosion with traditional shoe-crafting. Just as a rock is formed and worn away gradually over time, the shoes are made by layering strips of colorful fabric over one another. The effect is gorgeous, creating a marble or geode-like effect on the shoe.

Since each shoe is handmade, each shoe's layering and color palette is a little different, making each piece of footwear completely unique. These precious pieces formed the basis for Veselá's final project at the London College of Fashion.
