The GE Gallery Graffiti Art in Sao Paolo Gets Around Red Tape

The GE Gallery Graffiti Art in Sao Paolo is a sneaky way to get past the recently imposed 'Clean City Law' that banned billboards and commercial advertising.

Five years ago, Sao Paulo saw their city revamped after the removal of corporate city pollution, but residents will be surprised to see three 120 foot GE ads in the busiest areas of the city. GE and a Brazilian ad agency came together to create the GE Gallery, which is a series of unbranded artwork that panels the downtown core. Make no mistake, the murals do reference GE's largest business industries: transportation, health and energy, which serves to symbolize the corporate hold on city structures and appearances.

It is unsettling to know that there are such easily uncovered loopholes in a law that are so effective. It makes one question whether other pieces of legislation could be overridden easily in one's own hometown as well.
