3D-Printed Moon Furniture

Studio Nucleo Transforms Driade Pieces into Furniture for the Moon

Four of Driade's bestselling designs, which include works by Enzo Mari, Philippe Starck and Naoto Fukusawa, are reinterpreted as furniture for the Moon. The project was conducted by Driade, Italian writer Gianluigi Ricuperati and Turin-based Studio Nucleo in anticipation of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing.

In the process of developing the furniture for the Moon, the creatives used a material that is eerily similar to regolith — "the layer of dust, soil and broken rock that covers the moon's rocky surface." The creation of the space-friendly home necessities was developed through a 3D-printing process. The final design interpretations proved to entertain a wonderous aesthetic that made them not only suitable as outdoor Moon furniture but also exceptional works of art.
