Monica Piloni Transforms Fresh Fruit into Human Carcasses

Talented South American artist Monica Piloni's artwork features intricate fruit carvings that transform the inner flesh of the produce into human carcasses. The raw and somewhat eerie nature of the designs is carefully achieving using the spine of the fruit to replicate rib cages and torsos.

Piloni's work creatively begins with a fruit sliced in half that is then delicately carved away at by hand. The white skin of the fruit is often what is used to replicate the bone and is transformed into rips, spines and other body parts. The flesh of the fruit then acts as the organs completing the illusion of the body. Piloni's pieces include an orange turned into a set of lungs and a papaya turned into a ribcage.
