This floating bridge in the Netherlands provides access to and from the Ravelijn fortress-island. The bridge doesn't rise above a body of water like regular bridges, but instead floats on the water.

The floating bridge is made of Accoya, a specially modified and treated wood that is highly suitable for outdoor applications thanks to its durability. The material is also resistant to fungal decay and the swelling and shrinkage that can result from contact with water. The decking floats on the water with the help of air-filled polyethylene pipes.

The bridge is designed to be easily disassembled, meaning it can be maintained and repaired with ease and can even be moved to the side of the water when not in use. The bridge took 3 months to build and is designed to last for at least 25 years.
