Home extensions can be tricky for a number of reasons, but it appears that one architecture firm has got it right with a series of floating boxes. Recently commissioned to create unique additions to the facade of residences located in Melbourne, Australia, DKO Architects decided to meld the old with the new in a very artistic and sculptural way.
The floating boxes used for the Melbourne homes have a pixelated aesthetic that make them appear to be more like art installations than anything else. Interestingly, the pixelated pattern was actually inspired by the pattern spotted on a church that’s nearby rather than anything more technological. Although the floating box looks dark, inside a lot of natural light manages to seep in.
