The Scattered Crowd Installation Uses 1,000 Floating Balloons

Imagine walking into your bank to the soothing sounds of Ekkehard Ehlers setting the mood for 1,000 floating balloons. While you might initially be a little confused, before long you’d be surrounded by balloons and transported into an art installation called Scattered Crowd.

The product of dancer, choreographer and artist William Forsythe, the floating balloons and music combine to create a calming, yet excitingly unfamiliar experience. This installation has been on display across the world in banks, museums, galleries and other unique architectural buildings.

Forsythe says the floating balloons installation is "an air-borne landscape of relationship, of distance, of humans and emptiness, of coalescence and decision." The balloons will float their way into Frankfurt’s Bockenheimer Depot next year for their next appearance. Bockenheimer Depot is an old train station that now functions as art space.
