Certain domestic items are instilled with a timeless familiarity, present within households for many generations past. Flab by Kenyon Yeh brings the sculpted wooden dining table leg into the contemporary world by sentimentally preserving its silhouette and recasting it from metal instead.
The tabletop is made from a medium-density fiberboard (MDF), painted black and sawn into a rectangle with beveled corners. Next, four pairs of mirror-cut supports were manufactured and fixed to the surface with tapering bases.
But Flab by Kenyon Yeh is not attempting to masquerade as the archetypal kitchen table or desk, for the bright yellow legs with their 3 millimeter depth express a truly unique aesthetic. Bringing a shadow of antique design into the future, this project has a charm that industrial materials often lack.
