Oddly Restored Houses

The FINAL ACT Art Installation Commemorates Earthquake-Destroyed Residences

The FINAL ACT art installation is a stunning tribute to the devastation that took place in Christchurch, New Zealand, three years ago when hit by an earthquake. Even with the passage of so much time, over 16,000 homes are still deemed uninhabitable and are scheduled for demolition. The FINAL ACT installation takes place in what has been dubbed the 'Red Zone' to commemorate the wreckage.

Created by Australian visual artist Ian Strange, also known as Kid Zoom, in collaboration with cinematographer Alun ‘Albol’ Bollinger of Lord of the Rings fame, the FINAL ACT installation saw the near complete restoration of four homes in the Red Zone. Yet instead of going the full nine yards, the homes had geometric shapes cut out and lights installed to capture the surreality of the situation.
