Felipe Pantone Unveils 'Subtractive Variability Compact' Artwork

Visual artist Felipe Pantone has revealed his latest artwork, 'Subtractive Variability Compact,' a limited-edition kinetic sculpture comprised of a colorful spinning circle platform made with UV paint on PMMA material.

The new piece sees Pantone combine a CMY model with a manipulative function, allowing the interactive artwork to produce a seemingly endless array of colors, As the wheel spins, a range of different colors becomes visible to the spectator. This is because the three colors utilized -- cyan, magenta, and yellow -- blend together from the subtraction of light, combining to form countless variations.

"Felipe Pantone's manipulable art is a testimony of the way information is consumed nowadays, being personalization a key element of engagement in the digital era, and allowing the viewer to be an active collaborator that has a decisive say in the final appearance of the artwork," said the official release for the artwork.
