London-based FeatherStone Young Architects has created a unique way to turn dead space into work space. The studio built a set of oversized tables (complete with matching normal-sized tables) for the Kings Cross campus of Central Saint Martins, an art school in London. The tables fill an area that was once strictly a thoroughfare devoid of anywhere to socialize or do work.
The oversized tables come in two sizes, one that stands 12 feet and two smaller ones that stand 9 feet. The largest table features pull-down curtains and can fit about 40 people. It also features a lamp that can let folks above know when something is going on under the table. All of the tables designed by Featherstone Young Architects are on wheels and feature power sockets, display boards and hooks for hanging things.
