The Feathered Edge Project Uses 21 Miles of Material

Feathered Edge is a mesmerizing art installation made up of a whopping 21 miles of cut and colored twine--3,604 individual pieces, to be exact. The Feathered Edge installation was digitally planned out and then made by hand. Commissioned by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, California, it cascades down from a ceiling in the building. As delicate and colorful as the edfe of a bird's feather, it is not surprising why it was named after one.

Created by artists Benjamin Ball and Gaston Nogues of Ball-Nogues Studio, the Feathered Edge art installation is soft and flowy, like a summer breeze. According to the artists, Feathered Edge "explores our desire to alter a space with fluid architectural forms that require a minimal use of material."
