This experimental social housing project is testing ground in Hidalgo, Mexico. The initative is initiated by the country's National Workers' Housing Fund Institute (also known as Infonavit).
Dubbed 'Housing Research and Practical Experimentation Laboratory,' the project invites 32 architects and firms to develop unique, sustainable, flexible, and low-cost experimental social housing. Among the entities involved are Tatiana Bilbao, Fernanda Canales, Zago Architecture, Cano Vera Arquitectura, and more. The results were imaginative, functional, and mindful. Frida Escobedo, for example, produced a "barrel-vaulted brick house." Cano Vero, on the other hand, produced a structure using simple materials, assuring that the house will meet the affordability requirements.
As populations expand, experimental social housing that is affordable, flexible, and in abundance will be of great importance to urban environments and beyond.
