In an increasingly green world, car companies are looking for new ways to demonstrate their eco-friendliness, and Audi's eROT suspension system is an innovative way to capitalize on that environmental mindset.
When cars hit potholes and bumps, round curves and turn corners, and even when they simply brake, they induce kinetic energy. Current suspension systems dampen that energy with springs, ultimately disposing of it as heat. Audi's eROT suspension system decided that it isn't worth wasting that kinetic energy. It uses an electromechanical damper system to collect the suspension's kinetic energy in an electric motor, ultimately turning it into usable electricity.
In trial, the eROT suspension system saved 3 grams of CO2 per kilometer, and Audi believes that the system alone could contribute to fuel savings of 0.7 liters per 100 kilometers.
