Enric Miralles, the late Catalan architect, is honored through a curated exhibition of his lesser-known furniture innovations. The exhibition marks the first time that his furniture productions are publically featured. Curated by architects Benedetta Tagliabue and Joan Roig i Duran, the exhibition is on show until August 29th, 2021, at Barcelona's Disseny Hub.
The architect created most of the pieces for his personal home. Defined by dynamic, the collection on display includes shape-shifting tables whose structures conceal drawers and cabinets. Other pieces have transforming tabletops. Wooden joinery and hinges are used to extend the piece's scope, making for organic and unusual forms. The Lelukaappi shelving unit, for example, extends to create a large landscape and contracts to become a cozy nook.
